Looks like a misunderstanding of how memory works. While QPI handles memory accesses just fine, if your thread is running on one processor, but the data is in the RAM attached to the other processor, there can be significant performance losses. So, I guess I’ll have to start the process of trying to migrate off the Mac platform that I’ve used for 30 years.
I mean WTF were they thinking, selling workstation where you can’t add any storage to it and with only 1 processor. Sorry Apple, I’ve got 4 3 TB drives that just won’t fit in the trash can. This is really disgusting of Apple, I mean how many different hardware platforms do they have to support relative to Windows or Linux, and they can’t be bothered to support a machine that I paid a ton of money for.Įven worse, we have no replacement for the MacPro other than that ridiculous joke of a trash can they call a Mac Pro with no room for any extra drives. Now with XP, theres’s no excuse there because at least Microsoft knows that people are not going to throw out perfectly good hardware. There’s no technical reason for this, it has a 64 bit processor, and I write 64 bit code all the time. Why, because Apple being the douchebags they are dropped all support for my perfectly fine MacPro 1,1 and won’t let you install anything past 10.7.
